Air Max 1

The Nike “Air Max 1” (aka “Air Max 87”) was the first drop in the iconic Air Max brand. While the color of the original laces will depend on the pack / colorway / release, the OG shoelace style and sizing is the same across all. The Air Max Ones come equipped with standard, flat bodied cotton / poly blend laces, generally between 52 and 54 inches (137 CM). If you prefer to wear your laces untied, we recommend going with a slightly shorter, 50 inch shoelace – it’s a better fit for laid back styles.

Released in 1987, the Air Max 1 (also known as Air Max 87) was another smash hit from Jordan sneaker designer, Tinker Hatfield. The cushioned sole was being used in Nike sneakers since the 1970s, but this was the first sneaker featuring the clear “air bubble” in the sole, giving people a window to view the technology. Needless to stay, this design was well received.

  1. Really helpful guide guys, appreciate you taking the time to put this all together. Quick question, what’s the smallest lace sizing that will fit? I really don’t like extra slack on my laces … thanks!

    1. Hey Steven,

The smallest laces we recommend using is 46″ – anything else will be too short to fully lace up, UNLESS you didn’t lace them up to the top. Hope that helps!
